Espaldon Coordinates Disaster Aid with Malacanang
Senator Espaldon met with officials from the Philippine government to help coordinate disaster relief efforts coming from the Ayuda Foundation and local donors. Espaldon is leading a monetary relief drive to help purchase sorely needed medicinne and medical equipment to disaster stricken areas in the Philippines. The meeting was held in Malacanang Palace and was set up by Luli Arroyo-Bernas, daughter of President Gloria Macapagal, who chas been spearheading disaster relief efforts at the residence. Arroyo-Bernas called in officials from the Bureau of Customs and the Department of Health to meet Espaldon and discuss how relief supplies could be brought in and moved expeditiously to local hospitals. Health officials pointed out that the government hospital in Marikina was in dire need of help and it was agreed that the supplies being secured by Ayuda Foundation would be directed there. The hospital was submerged by storm waters that completely damaged the basement and first floor, including valuable hospital equipment. Espaldon also discussed the possibility sending a medical mission to northern Luzon.



Espaldon Visits Instituto Cervantes
Senator Espaldon visited the Instituto Cervantes in Ermita, Manila to inquiry whether the Spanish government could assist Guam in its quest to build a Guam Museum. A significant portion of Guam's history is its relationship with Spain and the influence the Spanish had on our culture, customs and traditions. Espaldon met with Institute Director Jose Rodriguez to see what monetary assistance may be avialable or avenues that Guam could pursue in its quest to build a museum. Mr. Rodriguez provided background on grants that were available and provided leads to establishing a working relationship with national museums in Spain.



Espaldon Honored as Adopted Son of Imus City
Senator Espaldon was honored on October 7, 2009 by the Mayor and Municipal Council of Imus City, Cavite, Philippines as an Adopted Son of Imus. Espaldon was recognized for his outstanding accomplishment and leadership as a lawyer and senator in the Guam Legislature. Espaldon's mother, Dr. Leticia Virata Espaldon, is a native of Imus and Senator Espaldon lived in Imus for two years during his early childhood. Espaldon was also named an honorary citizen of Imus City.



Espaldon Visits Imus City, Cavite
Senator Espaldon traveled to Imus City, Cavite, Philippines at the invitation of Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi. Espaldon was honored by the Imus City mayor and municipal council as an Adopted Son of Imus and honorary Citizen. Espaldon's mother, Dr. Leticia Virata Espaldon, is a native of Imus. Senator Espaldon spent two years of his early childhood living in Imus. The trip was a walk down memory lane for Senator Espaldon who recollected many of his childhood activities while living in Imus, including attending the 1st grade at the local elementary school.



Espaldon Meets with President Ramos
Senator Espaldon met with former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos to discuss issues relating to Guam and the Philippines. President Ramos discussed the military buildup and how it will affect Guam. Ramos also shared his thoughts on how Filipino workers could assist in the buildup process. Espaldon extended an invitation to the former President to share his words of wisdom with Guam's island community.



Espaldon Lectures at Guam Community College
Senator Espaldon was a guest instructor for Mr. Pedro Leon Guerrero's Interpersonal Relationships class at the Guam Community College on Septeber 24, 2009. Espaldon told students about the importance of appearance, eye contact, dress, mannerisms, etc. and how they shape one's perceptions of an individual. Espaldon employed various forms of attire to help make his point.



Colonel David Cruz Jr. Honored by Sen. Espaldon
Colonel David Cruz Jr. was honored by Senator Jim Espaldon and the Guam Legislature via legislative resolution during his recent recent retirement party. Col. Cruz retired from the Guam National Guard after 33 years of dedicated and honorable service. Cruz was joined by family and friends who celebrated his outstanding accomplishment.



Citibank Manager Honored for Successful Tenure
Senator Jim Espaldon honored outgoing Citibank Country Business Manager Madhu Seshadri with a legislative resolution in recognition for his successful 5-year tenure as country manager. The presentation took place on August 13th at Citibank's headquarters in Hagatna. The suprise event was attended by Citibank employees, family and friend. Madhu will head to Singapore where he will assume his new duties. Good Luck and Best Wishes!



Espaldon Visits with Congressman Escudero
Congressman Salvador Escudero III welcomed Senator Jim Espaldon to Manila during a recent visit. Espaldon and Escudero discussed numerous issues as it relates to the relations between Guam, the Philippines and the United States. Espaldon also visited the Foundation for Upgrading the Standard of Education Learning Center for Teachers. Escudero serves as President of the Foundation, which is supported by Dr. Lucio Tan.



Espaldon Meets with Senator Chiz Escudero
Senator Jim Espaldon paid a courtesy visit to Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero in late July 2009. Senator Escudero is a first-term Senator in the Philippine Senate and is Chairman of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights. Senator Escudero is also a potential candidate for the upcoming Philippine presidential election in 2010. Senator Espaldon extended an invitation to Senator Escudero to visit Guam later this year.



Teri Knapp Honored by Espaldon
Teri Knapp was honored by Senator Espaldon and the 30th Guam Legislature via a resolution recognizing her 30 years of service to the Department of Education. Knapp retired on August 21, 2009 after years of leading the GATE division. She is also one of the founders of SKIP Entertainment.



St. Paul Christian School Science Fair
Sen. Espaldon participates St. Paul Christian School Science Fair as a judge. Over 100 students entered the science fair from St. Paul's Central and northern campuses.
